Chargers volleyball home opener spikes for a cause

Sports Web Exclusive

Head on out to Camosun’s Interurban campus on October 12 and 13 to check out the Camosun Chargers volleyball home opener! Not only do you get to see fellow students diving and spiking, you get to feel good about it, as all proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society.

The women’s game starts at 6 pm at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence; the men are on at 8 pm. The Chargers are up against longtime rivals Vancouver Island University (VIU).

“I love playing against VIU as they are awesome competition, yet fun to play against as there are many familiar faces across the net,” Chargers women’s volleyball team captain Hilary Graham said in a statement.

The event is free for Camosun students, but a donation for the Canadian Cancer Society is appreciated ($5 sounds good, but bring what ya can!).

“The whole team is fired up for our home opener against Vancouver Island University,” men’s volleyball team captain Garrett Marcellus said in a statement. “We’ve always had a healthy island rivalry with them and the games we play against them seem to mean a little more. I’m in my fifth year now and every one of the four home openers I’ve played in against VIU has been exciting. It always sets the stage for the season and it’s nice to kick off league play in our home gym in front of our awesome fans”
