Gameplay: Gamers to fight battles

Columns November 13, 2013

Remember all those fighting games that just begged to be played for endless hours in years past? I do; I remember playing Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat for many, MANY hours.

But there was always that one fighting game that went further than those and never got old, no matter how much it was played. For me, it was Soul Calibur II. Why? To my surprise, I was actually good at it, unlike any previous fighting game I had played.

I’m pretty excited this month because Soul Calibur II is back; that’s right, it’s back, but it will only be available online. Soul Calibur II HD will hit the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Arcade on November 19. You know what I’ll be playing at the end of the month. Now, let’s see what else is on the horizon.

Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition

Platforms: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, PC, and PSVita

Release Date: November 12

Injustice: Gods Among UsŃUltimate Edition comes out this month. And what makes this game so special compared to the original version, Injustice: Gods Among Us, that was released last April? Well, it has the same concept as the original, but contains a lot more character skins (costumes) and a S.T.A.R. mission, and adds six new members to the character list. Gamers play DC Comics icons, such as Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, and fight within a fictional world that tests their moral boundaries. Those playing have the choice between two types of characters: power characters like Superman, who rely on brute strength to overpower their rivals, and gadget characters like Batman, who use weapons and items to defeat their opponents.

Also, guess what’s coming out in 2014: Super Smash Bros. Yes, Nintendo’s popular fighting series will be coming out next year on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. All your favourite characters, such as Mario, Link, and Kirby, will be returning. Are there any new characters? Why, yes, there are. Gamers will be greeted by newcomers such as the Villager from the Animal Crossing series, Mega Man from Capcom’s Mega Man, and the Wii Fit Trainer from Wii Fit. Isn’t this exciting, having so many battles to choose from?

Ahhh… the life of a gamer.
