Age of Geeks: 2014 electronics are here

Columns January 22, 2014

The first month of 2014 is almost over and we’ve already experienced the year’s biggest showcase of consumer electronics. Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2014 had a lot to offer and left everyone with much to anticipate. Most of the products showcased in 2013 are now in the market and growing fast, and more than a few of the products announced in 2014 should become the real deal. Here are the top things that CES 2014 has in store for us. Love them or hate them, they’re coming your way:

Expect to see more even tech from Samsung this year (photo provided).

4k ultra televisions

1080p LEDs are history and here comes the ultra-high-definition televisions. At CES 2014, these ultra TVs were everywhere, although that’s not the case in the consumer market. The super-sharp picture quality of these televisions is something to be excited about, but the lack of compatible content remains an issue. Either way, from the hype they got at CES, it definitely seems like 1080p LEDs are going to be the leader in the TV market.

The CAR OS

Well, Apple introduced iOS last year at CES, but this year the event looked more like a car show. Several companies and programmers had their operating systems built in to cars, which could do stuff like downloading apps, getting locked from your watch, or just ordering pizza while on the go. These cars had built in Android/iOS, which was connected to their stereos. So, can we say that cars are going to be the next frontier for operating systems?

Samsung, Samsung everywhere

There’s no doubt about Samsung being the leader in the consumer electronics market and it was definitely visible in this year’s CES. And it’s not only in the mobile section: Samsung had its hands full everywhere, from TVs and printers to phones and futuristic, wearable technologies. So it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say get ready to be flooded with a flow of Samsung devices and appliances this year.

That’s just a taste of what CES 2014 had to offer. Before we go, here’s something for all those people who wants to keep some conversations private. An app named Confide, which is free for a limited time in the app store, deletes sent or received messages once they are read, keeping your privacy at the highest level. Useful, isn’t it?
