Bite Me: Waffle-y goodness waiting at West Coast

Columns January 7, 2015

Over the holidays, I had a friend visiting from out of town. I decided to take him to West Coast Waffles, one of my favourite places to eat, for lunch. He wasn’t overly enthusiastic about having waffles for lunch, but he trusted me enough to go along with the experience.

I am a waffle lover; I have been known to pull a Saran-Wrapped leftover waffle out of my purse for my mid-day snack.

West Coast Waffles is located at 1235 Broad Street, right in the heart of downtown Victoria. The hours are Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 10 pm, but on Friday and Saturday they are open till 2:30 am for the late-night bar crowd craving a hearty waffle.

Bite Me is our regular food column (file photo).

Waffles are made fresh every day with a choice of original vanilla batter or gluten- and dairy-free buckwheat batter. They have ensured they have options for everyone, with a wide selection of fruit-infused and savoury waffles.

Some sweet-tooth choices on the menu include Nutella hazelnut or the frozen yogurt waffle sandwich. Looking for traditional breakfast-style waffles? Try the mango coconut, or the raspberry banana.

But my favourite style of waffles there is the savoury; my choice is the ham and Swiss or the pizza waffle. The ham and Swiss is loaded with honey ham, smooth Dijon, and broiled Swiss.

The pizza is my late-night choice: pepperoni, ham, marinara sauce, and green onions underneath broiled Monterey and cheddar cheese.

These are just a few of my favourites from their extensive menu. Not only does West Coast Waffles serve delicious waffles that cater to anyone, the staff is always approachable and full of good banter with their customers.

The restaurant’s atmosphere is full of west coast flare and has a positive vibe of laughter, music, and smiles.
