Journey to Space delights with information

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of information that Journey to Space, playing at the Victoria IMAX in the Royal BC Museum, provided in its 45-minute run-time while maintaining the ability to capture its audience.

With an impactful delivery and full of historical and emotional material, Journey to Space speaks to many audiences. Having little knowledge of space and the exploration endeavours humanity has pursued, I was drawn in by this short feature quite quickly.

The advancement in research spoke for itself when the first space shuttle, the Enterprise, was launched in 1977, a decade before its projected first flight. The story of the International Space Station (ISS), established in 1998, acknowledged the curiosity and passion that many global space agencies shared. The legacy of the ISS was its international involvement:15 nations worked together to build the ISS within 40 flights.

The film not only highlighted the revolutionary accomplishments that space agencies have made, but also honoured the fallen astronauts whose contributions impacted the world we know today. As stated by Ronald Reagan in reference to the space shuttle Challenger disaster, “the future doesn’t belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave.”

Journey to Space is an excellent and well-made movie. And if that’s not enticing enough, the popcorn’s delicious!
