Anna Akana has followed up Casualty, her 2019 debut album, with No Longer Yours, a six-song mini-album that features her popular single “Pink.” A proud member of the bisexual community, the Los Angeles-based Akana uses her pop music to be open and reflect on her personal experiences in life.
Overall, No Longer Yours is very rhythmic and showcases good musical progression. There’s also good versatility in the tone of the album; some of the songs are uplifting and danceworthy, while some are more sombre or serious.
As a bonus, the release is perfect for car rides. Listening while watching the scenery go by is the perfect way to immerse yourself into the story told by the music. No Longer Yours has a strong sense of unity in sound and concept. Each song pieced together tells a greater story, and each song is catchy, thought provoking, and replayable.
