Camosun Classes Abroad: Things I can’t wait to do once I get to Camosun

Columns Web Exclusive

I am writing this in a hotel in Doha. I have tested negative for COVID and there are six more days left in my quarantine.

I’ve finally gotten comfortable with the idea of travelling via a third country and quarantining. I’m trying to make the most of my unpredictable and unplanned hotel vacation in Qatar. So while I’m enjoying an Arabian and continental breakfast I’m also thinking of the things I can’t wait to do once I get to Camosun, and to Victoria in general.

I definitely want to take a campus tour (while following COVID protocol, obviously). Then I want to go explore downtown and check out the beautiful coast and the beautiful city of Victoria.

I want to try poutine from La Belle Patate; I’m not sure if poutine is overrated or underrated, but it’s my first time trying it and I really want to relish it.
I’ve been writing for Nexus for several months now and I’d really like to visit the Nexus office and see how things work there.

Camosun Classes Abroad is a column about taking Camosun classes from overseas (photo by Vlada Karpovich/Pexels).

One thing I really missed out on when I was studying from home was getting involved with the Camosun College Student Society. I really hope that when the fall semester begins, I can participate and contribute more.

I definitely want to join the Camosun gym facility and try food from a food truck in and around the school.

And something that tops my things-to-do list here is that I want to make friends, in the classroom and outside of it. Maybe in-person classes are not seen as the best option right now, but one great advantage of them is that we can finally interact with our professors and our classmates face to face.

Those who have been attending online classes have really wanted exposure, and it’s the same with me. The exposure that in-person classes can offer is what I’ve wanted for some time now.

I always wanted to read in the Camosun library. I love libraries and I hope I can read some awesome books along with my course material when I start attending face to face.

I hope to participate in various extra-curricular competitions and events—I write poetry so I’m really looking forward to attending poetry slams.

I mostly wish to participate and get involved in a lot of other fun activities in school. Since I only get to attend school for another year and a half, I’d like to make the most of it. It’s not just about academic growth; it’s also about how much personal growth we achieve through school.

I wish to explore Camosun to the fullest, make great friends, cultivate an interactive relationship with professors in the classroom, and, with the help of all this experience, grow into a new me.
