Bear sighting near Interurban
Another bear has been sighted near Camosun College’s Interurban campus. The college sent out an alert the morning of Tuesday, October 13 warning people that a bear had been seen in the Vancouver Island Technology Park, which is located next to the Interurban campus, that morning. A bear had previously been seen in the area on Tuesday, July 28. Students are reminded to not approach or attempt to photograph a bear if one is seen in the area; remain calm and back away slowly—do not run.
Victoria seeks poet laureates
The City of Victoria is looking for its next youth poet laureate and poet laureate. The laureates act as cultural and literary ambassadors for Victoria by creating original poems and participating in events. The youth poet laureate position is open to those between 14 and 24; both positions are two-year appointments, running from January 2027 to December 2028. The poet laureate gets an annual honorarium of $5,500; the youth poet laureate gets $2,500; they both get up to $2,000 a year for programming.
