Cool Aid is collecting winter garments to donate to those in need, so gather up those gently used items, such as hats, gloves, blankets, and sleeping bags. Donations can be dropped off at 1509 Douglas St. from 9 am to 3 pm until Friday, January 9.<\/p>\n<p>Friday, January 9<br \/>\n<i>Victoria painters\u2019 quest for fresh perception<br \/>\n<\/i>Five Victoria artists embark on the quest of re-presenting the world through their paintings to make the viewer question his\/her perception of reality. All five of the painters have chosen different inspirations for their work and will be meeting with curators in a panel discussion on Saturday, January 17 at 2 pm. The event opens on January 9 at 7 pm at Open Space, 510 Fort Street. Admission is by donation.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, January 10<br \/>\n<i>Poetry slam contest offers unique prize<br \/>\n<\/i>Members of the Greater Victoria community are invited to create a slam-poetry video on the topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Winners receive the opportunity to perform their piece at the Provost\u2019s Diversity Research Forum and participate in a workshop with Victoria Slam Champion Missie Peters. A cash prize of $200 goes to first place, and $100 to second-prize winners. Deadline for submission is January 10. Astronauts set off to replace a crew in space, but when the astronauts arrive at the space station, there is no one to be found&#8230; The preview, where the casts debuts its characters, is on January 13 at Victoria Event Centre. But little does Dorothy know that the film is actually a porno. <i>People<\/i> is a drama by Alan Bennett playing at the Langham Court Theatre. Rick Vito and the Lucky Devils, with special guest Billy Burnette, are coming to the Upstairs Cabaret to kick things up a notch; blues style with a country twist. Vito has performed with artists such as Jackson Browne, Bob Seger, and John Mayall. Burnette was born a musician, going on tour at the ripe age of 13 and recording his first album at 18.
