In Victoria we have so many options for places to go to experience the traditional English pub atmosphere, but my top choice out of them all would be the Garrick\u2019s Head Pub.<\/p>\n

Garrick\u2019s has been a local fixture since 1867, is known as one of oldest English-style pubs in Canada, and is located in the top corner of the historical Bastion Square.<\/p>\n

What makes the Garrick\u2019s Head different from the other English-style pubs in Victoria is the people who work there.<\/p>\n

I often sit at the bar and chat with the bartenders and make pals with my neighbour sitting beside me.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s one place I can go on my own and not feel like I am flying solo. The staff are educated on the 50-plus beers on tap, and they want to chat about beer with you.<\/p>\n

I find that this is important. I have my go-to drink, but I like to shake things up a bit every once in a while and try something new.<\/p>\n

The nightlife is always a good time, but often it\u2019s so busy that it\u2019s hard to find a table; it seems that this pub is where everyone wants to be.<\/p>\n

On a recent day downtown, I was dodging the rain, looked at the time, and sure enough it was still happy hour: perfection!<\/p>\n

I walked into the Garrick\u2019s Head, and by the time I walked out it was with a full belly and the satisfaction of having to pay a bill that was only $10.<\/p>\n

The Garrick\u2019s menu is described as traditional pub fare, and everything is offered in generous portions.<\/p>\n

I often order the poutine, which is generously loaded with cheese curds, along with a lager.<\/p>\n

If I\u2019m there for a full meal I always order the Club Smoked Turkey, with cheddar, bacon, lettuce, and tomato piled between three slices of multigrain bread.<\/p>\n

Any of the burgers are worth a taste, too, and there is a long list of choices, including beef, chicken, and even lamb.<\/p>\n
