Know Your Profs<\/i> is an ongoing series of profiles on the instructors at Camosun College.<\/p>\n

Every issue we ask a different instructor at Camosun the same 10 questions in an attempt to get to know them a little better.<\/p>\n

This issue we talked to economics and statistics instructor Ocean Lu about having the most rewarding job, being misunderstood, and having an identical twin sister.<\/p>\n

1: What do you teach and how long have you been a teacher at Camosun?<\/i><\/p>\n

I teach economics and statistics. I started teaching part-time in January 2011, then became full-time faculty in May 2012.<\/p>\n

2: What do you personally get out of teaching?<\/i><\/p>\n

It\u2019s the most rewarding job, and I feel that I make a difference each class.<\/p>\n

3: What\u2019s one thing that you wish your students knew about you?<\/i><\/p>\n

That I have another degree in Chinese Dance Choreography, and that I have an identical twin sister, Rain (so that the students don\u2019t get freaked out when they see both of us).<\/p>\n

4: What\u2019s one thing you wish they didn\u2019t know about you?<\/i><\/p>\n

That I have an identical twin sister, Rain (laughs).<\/p>\n

5: What\u2019s the best thing that\u2019s happened to you as a teacher here?<\/i><\/p>\n

Seeing students succeed when they follow my advice.<\/p>\n

6: What\u2019s the worst thing that\u2019s ever happened to you as a teacher here?<\/i><\/p>\n

Being misunderstood due to the fact that English wasn\u2019t my first language.<\/p>\n

7: What do you see in the future of postsecondary education?<\/i><\/p>\n

Programs more tailored to the needs of students.<\/p>\n

8: What do you do to relax on the weekends?<\/i><\/p>\n

I teach dancing.<\/p>\n

9: What\u2019s your favourite meal?<\/i><\/p>\n

Dumplings.<\/p>\n
