Victoria indie-rock group San Felix\u2019s new album, Fire Island<\/i>, opens with catchy percussion and electric guitar in \u201cI Was a Vulture.\u201d However, the lead vocalist sings like he\u2019s coming down with a cold and the range narrows to the same few notes.<\/p>\n

After the first song, the instruments lose their lustre, constantly hinting at some variation to the melody, only to slide back down and get muffled.<\/p>\n

The abrupt nonsensical tempo changes in \u201cDay of the Rat\u201d make the hurrying crescendos leading to nowhere sound like bad cut-outs from a completely different song.<\/p>\n

In the end we\u2019re left with \u201cGarden Treasures,\u201d a five-minute track with a bland one-minute musical introduction followed by several more drowsy intervals.
