They\u2019re able to achieve this because of the various tasteful and brief transitional filler songs placed between their more concrete songs. Contemporary hip soul crooner Mayer Hawthorne\u2019s latest album, <em>How Do You Do<\/em>, showcases his enthusiasm for \u201960s and \u201970s soul and R&amp;B.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not surprising that some of Hawthorne\u2019s influences, like Isaac Hayes and Barry White, revealed themselves on this album. Remember how bad Fall Out Boy were? Due to the quality of this album, I think it\u2019s safe to say that Stump is the one to blame.<\/p>\n<p>This 10-song album is about nine songs too long. I\u2019m not hinting that one of those tracks is good; no, they\u2019re all awful. Ultimately, Stump could have just rolled all these songs into one amazing, epic hour-long song of the worst pulpy pop garbage of all time.<\/p>\n<p>Musically, every track sounds completely identical; Stump just marks the changing of songs with different lyrics. They\u2019re not even good lyrics. They\u2019re lyrics like this: \u201cIf you\u2019re unfaithful put your hands in the air, hands in the air\u2026\u201d Wait\u2026 what?<\/p>\n<p>The nicest thing I could possibly say about this album is that it\u2019s dancey, so I\u2019m sure it will please the top-40, club, and 13-year-old crowds.<\/p>\n<p>-Clorisa Simpson<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ben Wilkins<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Ben Wilkins<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Milagro)<\/p>\n<p>2\/5<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Ben-Wilkins_pochette-cd_cd-cover.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1131\" title=\"Ben-Wilkins_pochette-cd_cd-cover\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Ben-Wilkins_pochette-cd_cd-cover-300x269.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Ben-Wilkins_pochette-cd_cd-cover-300x269.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Ben-Wilkins_pochette-cd_cd-cover.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After reading that Canadian indie-pop\/jazz artist Ben Wilkins studied music at McGill University and received a scholarship following graduation to teach and study music in China, I was expecting an album full of songs that could be described as culturally influenced, passionate, or interesting.<\/p>\n<p>But the only interesting thing about Wilkins\u2019 self-titled debut album is its lack of creativity.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the kind of album that, if you purchased it and it made its way onto your mp3 player, you would only end up listening to if it came on during shuffle. It\u2019s the kind of album that you would buy and then forget you even own because the songs are unoriginal, bland, and lifeless.<\/p>\n<p>For a debut album, Wilkins should have worked to create something interesting, or at least something that people would talk about.
