{"id":12975,"date":"2016-11-25T13:08:51","date_gmt":"2016-11-25T21:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/?p=12975"},"modified":"2016-11-30T12:05:53","modified_gmt":"2016-11-30T20:05:53","slug":"camosun-college-faculty-member-under-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/2016\/11\/25\/camosun-college-faculty-member-under-investigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Camosun College faculty member under investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Camosun College faculty member has been suspended after a student complaint that is regarding an incident that happened on a trip to the Philippines, according to a <em>Times Colonist <\/em>article.<\/p>\n<p>Camosun vice president of student experience Joan Yates says there is an objective third party outside of Camosun investigating the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe college did receive a student complaint and we took it seriously,\u201d she says. \u201cWe\u2019re underway now with an investigation into that. But because we\u2019re in the middle of an investigation, we\u2019re restrained. It\u2019s a private group that does this work for other organizations including post-secondary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yates did not comment when asked about the nature of the complaint, or who was suspended.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t comment at all because we\u2019re under investigation,\u201d she says. \u201cThat is the reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Camosun College had a Philippines Field School in 2016. The Camosun website lists Stephen Bishop as the instructor for the field school; Bishop could not be reached for comment.
