There\u2019s no news like bad news:<\/b> The cover of our January 9, 1992 issue featured not one but two grim headlines: \u201cOil leak contaminates Lansdowne\u201d and \u201cCamosun arsonist sentenced.\u201d The latter talked about how a person who had been setting fires around the Lansdowne neighbourhood had been sentenced to 10 years in prison, while the former talked about a smell of fuel oil being a tip-off that there had been a leak at the Lansdowne campus. Turns out it was quite a leak: between 1,000 and 1,300 gallons of fuel oil was calling soil and storm drains around the campus home because of the leak.<\/p>\n

Student society makeover:<\/b> The story \u201cStudent Society working on image\u201d talked about how the Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) had changed: \u201cWe\u2019ve become more relaxed,\u201d said Jennifer Graham, who was CCSS president at the time. \u201cPeople aren\u2019t looking over their shoulders\u2026 We\u2019re more easy-going; less political. Communication doesn\u2019t flow as easily if you\u2019re tense.\u201d Graham apparently felt strongly about this: \u201cIf there\u2019s one personal challenge for me this year,\u201d she said, \u201cit\u2019s to change the image of the student society.\u201d<\/p>\n

Playboy<\/i>?:<\/b> The story \u201cCouncil provides umbrella to Camosun clubs\u201d talked about a few clubs that were active on campus at the time before throwing out this curveball while discussing the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship club: \u201cThe IVCF are dedicated to pursuing a Christian lifestyle while attending college\u2014no small feat considering Camosun made the pages of Playboy<\/i> before it was officially chartered.\u201d No idea what that\u2019s all about, but we\u2019re looking into it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
