Like every year that has ever happened, 2016 was a big one, filled with notable events, small victories, plenty of insects in unappealing places, etc. Before we march forth into 2017, here\u2019s one last look at the year that was by way of each Nexus<\/i> staffer\u2019s list of their top five favourite things of 2016, as well as an added bonus: one thing that they don\u2019t want to see this year.<\/p>\n

Something I don\u2019t want to see in 2017:<\/p>\n

The total collapse of the United States of America<\/p>\n

1. Relaxing in the sun at Gonzales Beach<\/p>\n

2. Dancing to \u201990s music at Lucky Bar<\/p>\n

3. Hiking Alpine mountain ranges<\/p>\n

4. Harambe<\/p>\n

5. Writing for Nexus<\/i><\/p>\n

Something I don\u2019t want to see in 2017:<\/p>\n

More amazing artists dying<\/p>\n

Quinn Hiebert, features writer<\/b><\/p>\n

1. Some of my plants aren\u2019t dead yet<\/p>\n

2. Camosun\u2019s librarians<\/p>\n

3. Cat-ear headphones that light up blue<\/p>\n

4. Tomb Raider<\/i>\u2019s GOTY Edition<\/p>\n

5. The table in the library that had puzzles and cat colouring books; one was cats in hats<\/p>\n

Something I don\u2019t want to see in 2017:<\/p>\n

Trump, but it\u2019s too late for that<\/p>\n

Adam Marsh, student editor<\/b><\/p>\n

1. The chatty cashier guy in the cafeteria wearing gym shorts on a freezing cold December morning<\/p>\n

2. Squashing earwigs with managing editor Greg Pratt<\/p>\n

3. Benedict Cumberbatch\u2019s mad libs on Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/i><\/p>\n

4. Watching the maintenance crew feed the turtles in Fisher<\/p>\n

5. Greg\u2019s badass metal suggestions to get us through deadline day<\/p>\n

Something I don\u2019t want to see in 2017:<\/p>\n

The college spending a fortune on presidents, yet leaving the Young building hanging (literally, in some cases).<\/p>\n

1. Nexus<\/i> totally killing it, issue after issue; great work, team!<\/p>\n

2. First BMX-ramp jumps and separating ideas into paragraphs: being a proud dad<\/p>\n

3. Seeing a movie I wrote on the big screen at the Roxy<\/p>\n

4. Propagandhi\u2019s triumphant return to Victoria<\/p>\n

5. Me not being kidnapped by a cult<\/p>\n

Something I don\u2019t want to see in 2017:<\/p>\n
