{"id":13184,"date":"2016-12-23T15:08:27","date_gmt":"2016-12-23T23:08:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/?p=13184"},"modified":"2017-01-04T11:04:03","modified_gmt":"2017-01-04T19:04:03","slug":"camosun-college-on-philippines-complaint-the-matter-is-now-closed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/2016\/12\/23\/camosun-college-on-philippines-complaint-the-matter-is-now-closed\/","title":{"rendered":"Camosun College on Philippines complaint: \u201cThe matter is now closed\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/2016\/11\/25\/camosun-college-faculty-member-under-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\">previously reported<\/a> that a Camosun College faculty member had been suspended after a student complaint related to an incident that happened on a school trip to the Philippines; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timescolonist.com\/news\/local\/camosun-instructor-resigns-after-probe-into-alleged-misconduct-on-trip-1.5327349\" target=\"_blank\">a recent <em>Times Colonist<\/em> story<\/a> is now saying that the faculty member who was being investigated was Nursing instructor Stephen Bishop and is also reporting that a full-time instructor has resigned as a result of the investigation, but the college isn\u2019t releasing any details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot confirm details as it is a personnel matter,\u201d says Camosun vice president of student experience Joan Yates, who would not confirm or deny if it was Bishop who was being investigated or who resigned. \u201cStudents directly impacted have been informed directly by us.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13185\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13185\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_6642.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13185\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_6642-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_6642-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_6642.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_6642-180x135.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13185\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Lansdowne campus of Camosun College (file photo).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bishop has not replied to a request for comment for this story; he told the <em>Times Colonist<\/em> that he\u2019s not ready to speak with anyone at this time. Emails sent to his work email get an auto-reply directing people to his personal email and phone number.<\/p>\n<p>Yates provided <em>Nexus<\/em> with a copy of the college\u2019s official statement on the matter:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCamosun College takes the safety of our students very seriously.\u00a0After receiving student complaints, the college contracted a third party investigator to conduct an independent investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The college has taken the appropriate internal measures and the matter is now closed.
