Know Your Profs <\/i>is an ongoing series of profiles on the instructors at Camosun College. Every issue we ask a different instructor at Camosun the same 10 questions in an attempt to get to know them a little better. This issue we caught up with Dental Hygiene prof Ada Barker to talk about being a samurai, yeast-covered popcorn, and how teaching is good for her heart and soul.<\/p>\n

1. What do you teach and how long have you been at Camosun?<\/i><\/p>\n

Professional practice and clinical theory and practice in Dental Hygiene. 25 years.<\/p>\n

2. What do you personally get out of teaching?<\/i><\/p>\n

The fact that I get to work, learn, and explore with colleagues and students on a daily basis is a real privilege. It\u2019s good for my heart and soul.<\/p>\n

3. What\u2019s one thing you wish your students knew about you?<\/i><\/p>\n

That I\u2019m a samurai re-incarnate.<\/p>\n

4. What\u2019s one thing you wish they didn\u2019t know about you?<\/i><\/p>\n

That I watch The Voice<\/i> religiously. #TeamBlake<\/p>\n

5. What\u2019s the best thing that\u2019s ever happened to you as a teacher here?<\/i><\/p>\n

I love being in the classroom and in clinic and working with students who want to learn.<\/p>\n

6. What\u2019s the worst thing that\u2019s happened to you as a teacher here?<\/i><\/p>\n

When it\u2019s Thursday and you think the food truck is coming and it doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

7. What do you see in the future of post-secondary education?<\/i><\/p>\n

I am hopeful, and in being with my students I know that our future is bright.<\/p>\n

8. What do you do to relax on the weekends?<\/i><\/p>\n

I like to cook. Friday night cheap dates with my husband means Netflix and Engevita yeast-covered popcorn with butter.<\/p>\n

9. What is your favourite meal?<\/i><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve never met a meal I didn\u2019t like.<\/p>\n

10. What\u2019s your biggest pet peeve?<\/i><\/p>\n
