Hall\u2014who graduated from Camosun with a bachelor\u2019s degree in Athletic and Exercise Therapy\u2014played for the Chargers when they won consecutive British Columbia Colleges Athletics Association provincial gold medals in 2009 and 2010. Hall replaces Chris Dahl, who has taken a job with Volleyball BC as director of coach development.<\/p>\n<p><b>Students awarded at Camosun grad\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Five awards were given to graduating Camosun College students at this year\u2019s grad ceremonies, held June 15 and 16 at the Interurban campus. The Board of Governors Award for Innovation went to Ben Costin, while Marcelle Lima picked up the Lieutenant Governor\u2019s Silver Medal. The Governor General\u2019s Collegiate Bronze Academic Medal was given to four students: Mathew Mosveen, Jim Mercer, Chris Cocker, and Graeme Galloway. The Camosun College Distinguished Alumni Award was given to Phil Venoit, a 1985 trades grad. White Ribbon\u2019s Provincial Draw-the-Line Post-Secondary Sexual Violence Prevention Awards are given to people who \u201chave developed innovative ways of addressing and redefining sexual violence prevention programming on campus,\u201d according to a press release. The summer 2017 winners are Elizabeth Brul\u00e9 from York University, Chris Moulton from the University of Guelph, and Sarah Wiley from the University of Waterloo.<\/p>\n<p><b>Liberals pledge to reverse Adult Basic Education cuts<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The BC Liberals pledged to reverse their $6.9-million cut to Adult Basic Education (ABE) in their recent throne speech. The Liberals made the announcement on Thursday, June 22.<\/p>\n<p><b>Helps calls for help with housing crisis\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Victoria mayor Lisa Helps blogged in mid-June asking the public to consider billeting Victoria\u2019s homeless people. In particular, she called on those with spare rooms or vacant basement suites. Victoria\u2019s vacancy rate is 0.5 percent as of June 13.<\/p>\n<p><b>Greater Victoria School District adds new technology\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Greater Victoria School District is making a $1.25-million investment in Chromebooks and iPads, to be available for students as of September of this year. This investment will make one device available to every four students; the current ratio is approximately one device for every six students. $250,000 of the investment will be spent on updating the school\u2019s existing technology.<\/p>\n<p><b>Low Carbon Economy Fund announced\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian federal government recently announced the establishment of the Low Carbon Economy Fund. Money from the $2 billion fund will be put toward initiatives supporting clean growth and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions, according to a press release.<\/p>\n<p><b>CRD says water still safe to drink\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Capital Regional District (CRD)\u2019s drinking water is, as in previous years, of top quality and safe to drink, according to the 2016 Annual Report on Greater Victoria Drinking Water Quality.
