Canadian singer\/songwriter Neil Young proves it\u2019s never too late to turn over a new artistic leaf with The Visitor<\/em>, his second collaboration with American rock group Promise of the Real.<\/p>\n

The first two tracks, \u201cAlready Great\u201d and \u201cFly by Night Deal,\u201d are some of the hardest, loudest tracks I\u2019ve ever heard from Young. Promise of the Real\u2019s sound really comes out here.<\/p>\n

In many places throughout the album, the songs act as a response to the changing cultural and political times. Young opens the album with the lyrics, \u201cI\u2019m Canadian, by the way, and I love the USA\u201d; however, in the refrain of the same song, which is a response to the Trump campaign, he sings, \u201cYou\u2019re already great\/You\u2019re the promised land\/You\u2019re the helping hand\/No wall\/No ban\/No fascist USA.\u201d<\/p>\n

Young constantly pushes boundaries with The Visitor<\/em>. He tries new ideas and new styles, and I love him for it, but it doesn\u2019t always work here. \u201cWhen Bad Got Good\u201d must allude to the quality of the track: it\u2019s certainly bad, but it never quite gets good. However, songs like \u201cStand Tall\u201d and \u201cChange of Heart\u201d seriously kill it. The latter\u2019s lyrics (an example: \u201cHate is not worth using even as cement to build your walls that you hide behind\u201d) speak volumes both to the human heart and to the political situation in America right now. The song\u2019s exceptionally creative words will stop listeners cold.<\/p>\n

On tracks like these, Young\u2019s soft, original voice rings in everyone\u2019s ears like a finger around a wine glass on a still night, yet it still manages to hold strong against the cold winds that threaten the USA today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
