Blind Melon\u2019s rocky start in YYJ: <\/b>In our January 25, 1993 issue, we caught up with Blind Melon guitarist Rogers Stevens (who is now an attorney) after the band, then on the rise to superstardom, played a set in legendary local venue Harpo\u2019s to a less-than-enthusiastic crowd. \u201cThis is not indicative of the way all our shows go,\u201d Stevens told us. \u201cUsually we have a very enthusiastic crowd of people who all have the album, and know every song on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Admiration and respect:<\/b> For this issue\u2019s Speak Up<\/i>, we asked Camosun students who they admired and respected. The answers varied from the very era-appropriate Kim Campbell\u2014who would become prime minister in June\u2014to polarizing CBC hockey announcer Don Cherry. \u201cYou\u2019ve gotta love him!\u201d opined Applied Communications Program student Garay Barnes.<\/p>\n

Yesterday\u2019s modern community, today\u2019s values:<\/b> In \u201cFor those on the outside looking in,\u201d our editorial this issue, writer Mike Rhodes said that Camosun\u2019s campuses \u201cshould be an example of what a modern working and co-operative community can be; a showcase for the rest of society to emulate.\u201d He went on to berate those who litter and vandalize the campuses. As I was reading this, I wondered if we still strive to make Camosun\u2019s campuses that example of what community can be.
