The long road to legalization: <\/b>In \u201cThe plant with many uses,\u201d our editorial in our February 22, 1993 issue, writer Jonathan Beckwith rallied for the legalization of marijuana. Things move slowly in politics, but I\u2019m sure Beckwith would be pleased with recent developments on that front. Beckwith, who used the term \u201cganga\u201d in the story, wasn\u2019t just a stoner looking to be able to buy joints at Shoppers Drug Mart, either: he described himself as a \u201cconcerned non-smoking environmentalist\u201d in the piece.<\/p>\n

Cheech lives: <\/b>Our Speak Up <\/i>this issue asked Camosun students if they\u2019ve ever been told they look like somebody famous. \u201cI must have been told by a hundred different people that I look like that Cheech guy, especially when I was younger and my hair was long and my moustache was different,\u201d said Alan Helim, who totally looked like Cheech. \u201cI had quite a few laughs back in \u201977 when I was hitch-hiking across the States.\u201d<\/p>\n

Getting there:<\/b> In his City Cycling\u2026 Seriously<\/i> column this issue, writer Tim Sampson said that the \u201cstreets of Victoria have not been designed to safely accommodate both cars and bicycles.\u201d Well, the City of Victoria finally addressed those concerns.
