Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Joshua Hyslop\u2019s third album, Echos<\/i>, encompasses everything I love about the genre.<\/p>\n

With a combination of heavy acoustic guitar and whispered-tight-to-the-microphone lyrics of heartbreak, Echos<\/i> is soothing and easy on the ears. Tracks such as \u201cFall\u201d and \u201cHow You\u2019ve Been\u201d are reminiscent of Sleeping at Last and Gregory Allen Isakov. \u201cInto the Dark\u201d brings a refreshing folksy sound that makes me want to drink a pint around a campfire, and \u201cStand Your Ground\u201d provides a ribbon of southern soul.<\/p>\n

The album\u2019s 11 tracks unfold like a rom-com that can be predicted from the opening shot, but the beautiful part is that I don\u2019t really care. It\u2019s well executed, charming, and comfortable. While I would have loved an infusion of something unexpected, Hyslop provides a solid album worthy of sipping Starbucks to.<\/p>\n
