Vancouver doom metal\/stoner rock band Black Wizard\u2019s fourth album Livin\u2019 Oblivion<\/i> is one hell of a raw and honest journey from start to finish. At times, it\u2019s not as heavy as its predecessor, 2016\u2019s New Waste<\/i>, but its diversity pays off.<\/p>\n

Eugene Parkomenko\u2019s hearty drum work on opener \u201cTwo of These Nights\u201d grounds the band; elsewhere, there are parts in \u201cCascadia\u201d that border on quiet, until the song progresses beautifully into the heavier riffs. \u201cCascadia\u201d is followed up with \u201cPortraits,\u201d which is a nice change of pace, with its traces of speed metal. \u201cFeast or Famine\u201d is a beast of a triumph, keeping the listener\u2019s mood and pulse up on these dull winter days.<\/p>\n

It would have been nice to see more versatility from vocalist Adam Grant, but he brings fierce hostility to the table on this album, and he does it well.<\/p>\n

Whether stoner, speed, doom, or death metal is your poison, I can almost guarantee there are memorable moments to be listened to again and again on Livin\u2019 Oblivion<\/i>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
