It\u2019s just about exploring the mediums in which I inhabit, and to be able to enjoy\u2014and be surprised by\u2014the world that I live in: the world of the body and the world of the visual arts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson says his work is abstract and, therefore, completely motivated by the body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn dance, we\u2019re always working with the same marks that artists are working with,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s the spirit that\u2019s being expressed through the body.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ferguson says that for him, the motivation is the same for dance as painting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t really differentiate too much between the source,\u201d he says. \u201cThe source of the motivation is the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s different is the mechanics of the mediums, whether it\u2019s dance or art or film, says Ferguson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all this one big bowl of soup, ultimately,\u201d he says. \u201cYou\u2019re working with a core motivation that is creatively coming out. The biggest difference with visual art is I\u2019m working with colour; in dance, the colour comes last.
