Always be aware of new vacancies and, when you find one that interests you, be one of the first to send a resume. This can make a difference, as companies usually don’t wait a long time to fill vacancies. It’s important that you have your resume ready and up to date so you only need to make small adjustments to make sure it’s the best fit for the job you are applying for.

It’s important to realize that the layout and configuration of resumes varies by country. Find out the best way to prepare your curriculum in a way that is appropriate and appealing for the employers. One suggestion is to book an appointment with the international sector of Education that Works at Camosun. They can offer directions and guidelines for students who want to prepare to apply for job openings or work on their resumes and cover letters.

Another tip is to always be aware of career fairs and networking events. Never underestimate the importance of personal contact. Many students are satisfied just to send resumes by email; however, making direct contact can help you gain the trust of the employer and sell your work better. It’s worth remembering to always have a business card with you.

The most important thing is to pay constant attention to changes in the job market and not be left behind. You may miss an opportunity simply because you did not go to a website to check job listings one day, or because you did not make a follow-up call.

Lastly, always remember to check if your visa allows full-time work and if it is valid. Always be within the law so you have no problems in the future.

Finding a job after graduation can be one of the greatest challenges for international students.
