Somehow, I just want to make a joke about how in 2018 students still can\u2019t walk all the way around the Young Building, but I dunno; that joke\u2019s getting old. Still\u2026<\/p>\n<p><b>Still keeping students safe:<\/b> This issue\u2019s story \u201c\u2018Safety in numbers\u2019 at Camosun campuses\u201d talked about an idea the Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) had to help make the college\u2019s campuses safer at night. That idea was a service where someone will walk with a student or give them a drive in a golf cart to their car or bus stop. The idea became reality: it\u2019s called Walk Safer and is still going strong today.<\/p>\n<p><b>Retroactive CFS controversies:<\/b> Last time around in this column, we talked about the CCSS approving a raise in Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) fees; this time around, former CCSS chairperson Niki Stanford piped in to say that the CCSS council betrayed the trust of Camosun students. \u201cWe were told when we joined the CFS that any fee increases would go to referendum,\u201d she said. \u201cStudents should have that choice.\u201d The CFS expelled the CCSS from the CFS in 2018, after ongoing disputes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Revisiting repairs: The story \u201cDawson Building to be replaced\u2014again\u201d in our November 15, 1993 issue talked about how Camosun was hoping to go ahead with a total rebuild of the Dawson Building.
