This issue we talked to Health Care Assistant instructor Julia Liska about dodgy parking, cornbread, and job satisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. What do you teach and how long have you been at Camosun?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve been at Camosun since 2011. I teach multiple courses in the Health Care Assistant program as well as do practicum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. What do you personally get out of teaching?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Satisfaction in assisting students to be successful in a rewarding career in healthcare\u2014especially those who may have had bad education experiences in the past or lack self-esteem. They can achieve so very much if given a little support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. What\u2019s one thing you wish your students knew about you?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m a pretty good baker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. What\u2019s one thing you wish they didn\u2019t know about you?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m terrible at spelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. What\u2019s the best thing that\u2019s happened to you as a teacher here?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being able to work with the phenomenal staff (and students) in Health and Human Services. I love coming to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. What\u2019s the worst thing that\u2019s happened to you as a teacher here?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having my new car hit not once but twice while it was parked in the parking lot and I was teaching in the classroom (both times the person left a note on my car, which was good).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. What do you see in the future of post-secondary education?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hopefully more flexible education opportunities to meet students\u2019 diverse situations and needs. I would love to see more online course opportunities offered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. What do you do to relax on the weekends?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hiking, cooking, gardening, spending time with friends and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. What is your favourite meal?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great chili and fresh homemade cornbread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. What\u2019s your biggest pet peeve?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
