Perhaps it\u2019s the homemade recording feel, or Elisha May Rembold\u2019s eerie pop\/country textured vocals. I\u2019m not 100 percent sure.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, though, it\u2019s not all the way there, which is fair enough, as this is their first album. Just keep an eye on this band because there\u2019s some talent brewing.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe we\u2019ll just have to wait until the indie hipster kids get a hold of it and run rampant, all of them claiming to have been the first to listen to The Lost Lovers Brigade. It features alternate versions of old Cat Empire songs, plus new ones, and songs from members\u2019 other, previously released, projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere Come the Scissors\u201d by The Genie brings The Cat Empire\u2019s rhythm section to the forefront\u0143where they belong. Felix Riebl\u2019s \u201cI Won\u2019t Know You Anymore\u201d is a gorgeous step up from <em>Cinema<\/em>\u2019s \u201cNo Longer There.\u201d And Roscoe James Irwin evokes Elliott Smith on \u201cPass the Time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The standout tracks on <em>Asylum<\/em> both come from Harry James Angus. His evocative, imagery-rich songwriting is highlighted on the curiously melodic \u201cDave\u201d by Jackson Jackson, and on \u201cUnderground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Asylum<\/em> exemplifies the fact that musicians exist not in a void, but in a community. Their bleak stylings are akin to noted underground metal bands like Nocturnus, Unseen Terror, Nuclear Assault, and Gorguts.<\/p>\n<p>Picture several lone cyber marines forsaken by their government on an inhospitable barren landscape. They\u2019re not being attacked by aliens; they\u2019re slowly being internally destroyed by the elements. That\u2019s the sound Vektor creates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTetrastructural Minds\u201d is the boldest metal opener in recent memory, and the album just does not relent: there are no bad songs. <em>Outer Isolation<\/em> is violent, sophisticated, audible, and proves that thrash is more relevant now than it was in the \u201980s.<\/p>\n<p>-Adam Price<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sharon Jones<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Soul Time!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Daptone)<\/p>\n<p>4\/5<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1770\" title=\"front\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-298x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-298x300.jpg 298w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-70x70.jpg 70w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-110x110.jpg 110w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-300x301.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front-180x180.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/front.jpg 697w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s time to get down to <em>Soul Time!,<\/em> a collection of B-sides and rarities from America\u2019s soul queen, Sharon Jones. The tracks were previously released on 7\u201ds, compilations, or as bonus tracks, and are collected here, along with new track, \u201cNew Shoes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This album is super funky, and features the strong horns that make the Dap-Kings so good. As usual, the songs are infused with Jones\u2019 strong, sassy personality.
