It\u2019s been a while since I heard an\nalbum that was as skilfully written and executed as Dave Hause\u2019s\nfourth solo album, Kick<\/em>. A commentary on issues facing\nworking-class America, Kick<\/em> is full of heart, musically\nempowering, and lyrically insightful. With the album full of societal\ncritiques, songs like \u201cSaboteurs\u201d\u2014driven by a raw guitar\nsound\u2014give Springsteen or Petty a gracious nod. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hause is versatile throughout the\nalbum, venturing to soft acoustics at times and returning to his\nfast-paced punk roots in \u201cWeathervane.\u201d He hones in on some\nmethodical beats and background riffs in \u201cWarpaint\u201d and\n\u201cFireflies\u201d\u2014the latter is a lyrical masterpiece. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hause proves himself a true artist and\nsongwriter with this album; in \u201cBearing Down\u201d\u2014 an eerie ballad\nthat deals with suicide\u2014he pays tribute to Robin Williams and\nHunter S. Thompson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
