Local alternative\/folk singer\/songwriter Steph Macpherson has come out of a four-year-long silence (her last album was 2015\u2019s Stones<\/i>) with her new EP, Cowards<\/i>.<\/p>\n

It starts off with one of her best songs ever, \u201cWasted,\u201d which is fiercely honest lyrically\u2014it\u2019s surprising, soothing, and empathetic. It\u2019s clear that Macpherson has been down a long, dark road in making this EP, and she has valuable things to say to the world about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWasted\u201d is a perfect opener to Cowards<\/i>; pain is never a waste, but it sure can feel like it, and this song takes the experience full circle, proving that the only waste would be not listening to it. The ballad \u201cBad Fit\u201d is wrenching, and Macpherson\u2019s soft voice hits harder than ever here. \u201cTreading Water\u201d is an eerie finish to the EP\u2014it\u2019s real, true, and transparent.
