Writing Centre victory:<\/b> We reported in this column a couple issues back about the uncertain future of the then-closed Camosun Writing Centre. Our November 14, 1994 issue carried the good news that it would reopen in the story \u201cWriting Centre to re-open with student tutors.\u201d The student tutors were given \u201ca short tutor training course,\u201d according to the story, which is a bit alarming, but, hey, better than no Writing Centre at all, right?<\/p>\n

Interurban gives student society cold shoulder:<\/b> The story \u201cInterurban students feel alienated\u201d talked about how students at Interurban felt alienated from the Camosun College Student Society (CCSS). \u201cThey don\u2019t care about our opinions,\u201d Interurban student Jamie Stevens said in the piece. Student Jeff Kelly said that he didn\u2019t vote in the recent CCSS election. \u201cI voted last year,\u201d he told us, \u201cbut not this year because it seemed pointless. They did not seem to take any actions on our concerns.\u201d \u201cTrades and Technology students feel segregated,\u201d added another student. \u201cNobody cares,\u201d said yet another, punctuating this miserable, feel-bad story with cheer, \u201cand no one has the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

More textbook pricing woes:<\/b> In \u201cCost of textbooks depends on instructor comfort,\u201d we looked at one of the longest-running topics of discussion here at Nexus<\/i> HQ: the price of textbooks. Brad Hett, who was at the time the Camosun College Student Society external executive, said in the story that he thought that more instructors should print their own course materials through the college Printshop, saying that it reflects on \u201can unorganized and poorly structured faculty.
