Now that\u2019s recreation:<\/b> The story \u201cNew student lounge for Interurban students\u201d in our January 9, 1995 issue talked about how students were getting a student lounge in Interurban\u2019s Classroom Administration Building (CAB, not be confused with the CBA building at that campus). Among other services, such as a clothing exchange and soup kitchen, the lounge was set to include a\u2014wait for it\u2014ping pong table. Hands up if you want to see the table return to Camosun in 2020.<\/p>\n

Safety first:<\/b> For anyone who thinks the concept of increasing safety on campuses is relatively new, the story \u201cHarcourt provides funding for safer campuses\u201d in this issue proves otherwise. The story detailed how the provincial government was putting a $1.5-million investment into their Safer Campuses Project. Camosun\u2019s share of the funding was to go to improved lighting and security, landscaping, and signage.<\/p>\n

Striking news:<\/b> The story \u201cStrike set for Jan 25\u201d explained how the Canadian Federation of Students had organized the National Day of Strike and Action to protest government cuts impacting post-secondary education. The strike committee coordinator said in the story that the actions of the government would result in \u201ccharging people a lot of money that they don\u2019t have to get training and education.\u201d Oh, and the name of the strike committee coordinator may ring a bell to anyone who follows politics today: Rob Fleming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
