Written, recorded, and produced by band mainman Jeff Waters, the album features heavy, inferno thrash beats combined with shoelace-tying time changes and speed-metal movements.<\/p>\n<p>2020 Annihilator sounds tighter and beefier than they have in years, and nods at early-career Annihilator.\u00a0But there are problems with the album: <i>Ballistic, Sadistic<\/i>\u00a0is reminiscent of middle-of-the-road \u201990s Montreal metal in that it\u2019s not bad, but it\u2019s not great, either.\u00a0<i>Sadistic, Ballistic<\/i>\u00a0feels overproduced and overly methodical.<\/p>\n<p>Strangely for a metal band, Waters\u2019 lyrics verge on emo oversharing. The bullied-artist theme of the record weakens Annihilator\u2019s forceful sound.\u00a0<i>Poor me<\/i>, scream Waters\u2019 lyrics,\u00a0<i>Imma fight<\/i>. As good as some of the tunes are, here\u2019s your record back, Waters, with a box of tissues.
