After dropping a pair of damn good 7\u201d singles in 2019, Melbourne\u2019s Bananagun is ready to release their first full-length record, The True Story of Bananagun<\/i>.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

There is no angst or sadness here, and it\u2019s incredibly refreshing to hear rock \u2019n\u2019 roll that brings fun and funk in such large doses. Elements of late \u201960s Pink Floyd, Small Faces, and Grateful Dead are present throughout, but it\u2019s the fuzzed-out bass and Afrobeat rhythms that bring the sound together. \u201cPeople Talk Too Much\u201d (a great choice as the lead single) and \u201cThe Master\u201d seem destined for airplay.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like their earlier releases, The True Story of Bananagun<\/i> is heavily retro, but there is a rhythmic twist that makes Bananagun\u2019s sound original and separates them from the many paint-by-numbers psych-pop groups that have come and gone. The only downside is that one or two of the deeper cuts are competently crafted filler that don\u2019t quite fit into what is otherwise a great debut album.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
