Shortly after an announcement that the federal government had launched the $912-million Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) program, which provides grants to post-secondary students who volunteer, the contract with the organization that was to be distributing the money has been cancelled.<\/p>\n

The Liberals had faced much criticism after they announced WE Charity would be distributing the funds, as well as receiving at least $19.5 million in fees for the contract (Nexus<\/em> was working on a story on this and had a request in, which had not been answered at press time, to see the contract). WE Charity has ties to the Trudeau family: Sophie Trudeau is a volunteer for WE and hosts a podcast in association with the organization.<\/p>\n

Today, an announcement was made that the two organizations had agreed to not work on the program together. Instead, the government will distribute the grants itself.<\/p>\n
