Keep corporations out of post-secondary:<\/strong> Our October 2, 1995 issue featured a feisty student editorial written by Nick Yaremchuk. In it, Yaremchuk came out strong, saying \u201cLet\u2019s face it, large corporations have a foothold on Camosun College,\u201d and went on to say how upset he was to see a Citibank Visa representative on campus trying to get students to sign up for credit cards. \u201cI\u2019m sure I wasn\u2019t the only one who felt like torching that fancy little display table,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cNext time you cruise through campus watch out for these attempted assaults on your better judgement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shit and piss:<\/strong> The Students for Environmental Awareness column\u2014also written by Nick Yaremchuk\u2014this issue featured the attention-grabbing headline \u201cDon\u2019t flush when you piss!!\u201d and also contained these wise words, which we should continue to heed all these years later: \u201cDon\u2019t kick the shit out of Mother Nature. She\u2019s cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

We still don\u2019t want it:<\/strong> We regularly go into classrooms to talk to students about Nexus<\/em>, and one of the most common questions we field is \u201cDo you run poetry?\u201d Our answer is no, as a newspaper, we don\u2019t run poetry. Apparently, that wasn\u2019t true 25 years ago\u2014in this issue we encouraged readers to submit poems. Whatever, that was then, this is now, don\u2019t use this against us, we aren\u2019t running poetry.
