BC-born and Toronto-based Indigenous electro-pop duo Once a Tree\u2019s new EP, Fool\u2019s Paradise<\/em>, is coming out on November 20. The two members of the group\u2014partners Jayli and Hayden Wolf\u2014focus on experiences they\u2019ve had on the EP\u2019s songs, with powerful results.<\/p>\n

The songs on the EP\u2014which follows up 2017\u2019s debut full-length Phoenix<\/em>\u2014show that the two have a strong instrumental connection, but it doesn\u2019t overwhelm the songs. And they both have great voices.<\/p>\n

Although upbeat and melodic for most of the release, the title track, which is the last on the EP, nods to the duo\u2019s dark past\u2014the two were, apparently, raised in a doomsday cult. Before that, they lay down \u201c3 Day Trip,\u201d a song about love, gratitude, and generosity, and \u201cWhat You Say,\u201d where Jayli sings that \u201cwhat you say, what you mean, are two very different things.\u201d<\/p>\n
