It serves as an interesting discussion about love and identity that will get readers pumped for whatever Blades writes next.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe premise of the book is, basically, a girl goes to a punk show and falls for the lead singer of a punk band,\u201d says Blades. \u201cThey have two daughters together and the book follows this woman and her daughters as they grow up without the man, after he leaves them. So it\u2019s really about everyday life and women\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blades\u2014who is currently working on her next novel\u2014says <em>Fake It So Real<\/em> is about \u201clove, heartbreak, divorce, motherhood, coming of age, and learning how to live an authentic life without hurting anyone\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_20185\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-20185\" style=\"width: 278px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Susan-Sanford-Blades.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-20185 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Susan-Sanford-Blades-278x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Susan-Sanford-Blades-278x300.jpg 278w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Susan-Sanford-Blades.jpg 648w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-20185\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Victoria author Susan Sanford Blades is getting ready to launch her debut book (photo provided).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201c[I conveyed those themes] in a really raw and honest and darkly funny way,\u201d she says, adding that the delivery of the writing is sort of a \u201cpunk rock Alice Munro.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about those everyday things,\u201d she says, \u201cbut it\u2019s deeper than that\u2026 It\u2019s also about trying to live an authentic life, and how it\u2019s impossible to live an authentic life and not hurt anyone who you love. We\u2019re constantly making choices about whether to do what\u2019s best for us and possibly hurt someone or to hold back from doing the right thing for us so that we don\u2019t hurt others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blades is holding a book launch event at the Victoria Event Centre on Wednesday. The launch will feature music bingo and will, of course, have COVID-19 protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, it\u2019ll be like you\u2019re going to eat out at a restaurant,\u201d she says. \u201cWhen you arrive, you will be taken to your table by the host and you will not be able to leave your table unless you have to go to the bathroom or if you want to come to the table where I\u2019ll be selling books and T-shirts. I\u2019ve had masks made and I\u2019ll be giving everyone a mask so that any time they do get up from the table, they need to wear the mask. People won\u2019t be able to mingle or talk between tables or anything like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Blades says that writing means everything to her and is something that she, basically, has to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWriting, for me, is a way to make sense of the world and to connect with others,\u201d she says. \u201cWith this book, what I really hope is that people will read it and connect with it and feel less alone in the world. It\u2019s a very emotional thing for me.
