Maybe you\u2019re waiting for classes to be in person again, or maybe you’re waiting for the vaccine to get rolled out to enough of us for that to happen, or maybe you’re just simply waiting in line\u2014distanced and masked\u2014at the grocery store. Either way, it\u2019s more of the same these days. It\u2019s too true. And with only a couple of days to go until BC announces what they\u2019re doing with restrictions after February 5, it\u2019s hard to not feel like we\u2019ll just be in for more of the same.<\/p>\n

I’m not here to get the Camosun community’s hopes up. That’s hard to do anyway, with the delays in the vaccine rollout derailing the brief moments of hope we felt a month back. But think about this for a moment: no matter what happens after February 5, things will change in some small way. Maybe you\u2019ll learn to cook something new, run a new route, find a new way to take your coffee (try it with cinnamon). But if nothing else, it means we\u2019re another day closer. If I have to spend another full day in here with my cat (who is adorable, but truly one of the dumbest animals I\u2019ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, and because of this gets himself into all sorts of weird predicaments around the house that you wouldn\u2019t believe), I\u2019ll start talking to the lamps. It wouldn\u2019t be the strangest thing I\u2019ve done throughout this now-long-winded lockdown.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to feel like our COVID situation on the island is pain and suffering, considering that cases are still quite low here, comparatively. Maybe it is, maybe it isn\u2019t, but either way, we get to choose how we cope. Even when we\u2019re living the mandated life, we still get to choose. That\u2019s when it\u2019s most important to.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t forget that Nexus is a constant through it all. You don\u2019t need any experience to go down this path if you want to be a volunteer writer for us\u2014we’ll show you what to do every step of the way. Change up the isolation monotony with, for example, a review of a new album before it even hits the shelves, an interview with an artist who has a show happening locally, or an opinion piece about what you think of the college’s COVID plans. Actually, we’re all ears for story ideas, so pitch away!<\/p>\n
