The bread was house baked and gluten free (big plus!) and light, yet with a yummy consistency to chew. I chose the white bread option, but they also have brown bread, if you prefer that. I was told that because it’s house baked, white bread is healthy. Well, we all need to justify a yummy decision, right?

The cheese was nicely melted, yet not dropping out of the sandwich and, overall, the taste was as good as a grilled cheese can get. However, I’d love to try it with some other cheeses on there—gorgonzola would be mindblowing. But so far so good: the cheddar was just fine.

The sandwich came accompanied with a soup; I chose Moroccan vegetable. It was hearty, hot, and full of flavour. I ate it all; I should admit that I might have inhaled it because it was really good and just fit with the weather. You also could get two other options—one was a chicken, corn, and jalapeno chowder and the other was a tomato red pepper bisque. I was wearing white, so the bisque was definitely a no-go. The sandwich and soup combo came to an affordable $11 and was a good size: it kept this hungry student full for the whole day.

The Camosun Cuisine Machine staff was super friendly, and I could pay by card, which is also a big plus to me.

But the best thing was they let me bring my own container. I know this usually disrupts the workflow, but it’s so good that they let you do it. I could see that all their packaging was compostable, but also, if more students (and instructors) would bring their own containers, it would have a big impact on our waste management. This is a nice environmental sidenote that only added to my pleasurable experience this time around with the Camosun Cuisine Machine.

Another day, another hungry student.
