This month, Swedish all-star band At the Movies (featuring members of Soilwork, HammerFall, King Diamond, Pretty Maids, and others) released two new records featuring their hard-rockin\u2019 takes on some of the best songs from movies released in the ’80s and ’90s. The songs were mega-hits at the time, and when put on a record together make for a great listening experience that will remind listeners why they fell in love with movies in the first place.<\/p>\n

Vol. 1<\/i> focuses on some of the best music from the ’80s. The ’80s was a great decade for movie music in general and this album does a fine job at assembling the best songs of that decade. Songs like the Oscar-winning \u201c(I\u2019ve Had) The Time of My Life\u201d from Dirty Dancing<\/i> and Back to the Future<\/i>\u2019s memorable \u201cThe Power of Love\u201d by Huey Lewis and the News are great choices that pay tribute to both the film they\u2019re from and the music itself.<\/p>\n

The only critique I have is that I would have switched out \u201cThe Power of Love\u201d with Lewis\u2019 other hit song from the same movie, \u201cBack in Time,\u201d because thematically \u201cBack in Time\u201d is more about the movie.<\/p>\n

Vol. 2<\/i> covers the ’90s era of movie music and is just as remarkable as Vol. 1<\/i>. Again, there\u2019s a lot of content to choose from in that decade, but I\u2019m quite confident that listeners will be happy with the choices the band made. Featuring hit songs like Go West\u2019s amazing \u201cKing of Wishful Thinking\u201d song from Pretty Woman<\/i>\u00a0and Ronan Keating\u2019s \u201cWhen You Say Nothing at All\u201d from Notting Hill<\/i>, the first half of this epic album does not disappoint.<\/p>\n

I really would have liked to have seen the inclusion of Elton John\u2019s\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cCan You Feel the Love Tonight\u201d from The Lion King<\/i> or Aerosmith\u2019s song from Armageddon<\/i>, \u201cI Don\u2019t Want to Miss a Thing.\u201d These are great picks for this type of music and would help make this album a memorable listening experience.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But besides making those additions, I wouldn\u2019t change a single thing.<\/p>\n

These records are a touching musical love letter; they will have even people who have never seen the movies dancing around their living room.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
