The event\u2014to be held virtually this year\u2014marks the 70th year of The Gallery Associates raising funds for the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV).<\/p>\n<p>This year, the tour includes five documentary films focusing on five very different homes. Rather than host in-person tours, TGA decided to produce a series of videos that would offer homeowner-guided tours where viewers will get a rare opportunity to hear the stories and inspirations for the home from the homeowner\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Gallery Associates was started in 1952 as the Women\u2019s Committee to raise funds for the Art Gallery, and it\u2019s been going ever since,\u201d says House Tour Committee chair Carol Ann Harper. \u201cBut we also promote community awareness and enjoyment of the AGGV.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, TGA grew to promote further community engagement in local culture and arts, including arts education and programs for their members.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23043\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23043\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/AGGV-HT-Island-Treasure-CREDIT-ROGER-BROOKS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23043 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/AGGV-HT-Island-Treasure-CREDIT-ROGER-BROOKS-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/AGGV-HT-Island-Treasure-CREDIT-ROGER-BROOKS-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/AGGV-HT-Island-Treasure-CREDIT-ROGER-BROOKS.jpg 525w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-23043\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The House Tour 2022 is a video tour looking at five different and unique houses in the region (photo by Roger Brooks).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe have monthly speakers and a book club as well,\u201d says Harper. \u201cThe success of the house tours over the last decades have become a flagship fundraising event, often attracting over 1,000 guests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, the house tours transitioned to a video tour.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The first video they did was of one mansion, but this year they set their sights higher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year we are filming five houses that wouldn\u2019t be feasible on an in-person house tour,\u201d says Harper. \u201cSome due to location, one of them is on an island, and others due to logistics, so houses that even if we could go in person, we wouldn\u2019t see these houses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The homes that were selected are unique and varied, from Modernist west-coast style to houses perched upon steep slopes; one home was designed by a well-known Victorian Modernist architect. Each home will exhibit floral art created by five local artists who are part of the Victoria Floral Artists Guild. Roger Brooks, a retired architectural photographer, provided expertise and continuity, and the production also included three local videographers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou get a personal tour with the home owner, an intimate telling of the history, what they\u2019ve done, what they liked,\u201d says Harper. \u201cIt was really about which houses would be different but not easily accessible and also, where the homeowner had an interesting story to tell about their house, with a willingness to tell them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Tour 2022: Video Edition<br \/>\nUntil Sunday, October 30<br \/>\n$35<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aggv.ca\/house-tour-2022-video-edition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aggv.ca\/house-tour-2022-video-edition<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Art and architecture are intersecting at the House Tour 2022, put on by The Gallery Associates (TGA).
