They received a $1,500 prize to develop their small market business, Women of the World Soup, after they graduate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Government renews funding for nautical training program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The federal government recently renewed its funding, though Transport Canada, for Camosun College\u2019s Bridge Watch Rating program, which provides nautical training for Indigenous peoples and women. Students receive a certificate at the end of the course, which is delivered in partnership with BCIT. An estimated 2,600 water transportation jobs are expected to open in the next 10 years. This program is part of the Ocean Protection Plan, which aims to improve the health of our coast and oceans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camosun gets grants for reconciliation projects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Almost $500,000 in grants has been given to Camosun Innovates by the federal government to help advance reconciliation projects in the department, which deals with applied research and innovation. The funds will go toward the Virtual Reality Witness Blanket Project and Preparing for Totem 2.0, which aim to further progress towards awareness and reconciliation. Portions of the grants will be used to hire current students and recent graduates to work on these projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Government invests in M\u00e9tis students<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The provincial government announced on November 15 they were investing $7.1 million to provide and enhance occupational skills training programs for M\u00e9tis students.
