The college said in a press release that it\u2019s optimistic that the discussions will result in a formal agreement that would establish a timeline and cost for the film studio. The women\u2019s team beat the Vancouver Island University Mariners; this is the team\u2019s third straight PACWEST medal, as they won bronze in 2022 and silver in 2020, but it\u2019s their first time taking home gold. Rilyn Boorman, Hannah May, and Erica Bolink were all named to the Championship All-Star team, and Boorman was awarded most valuable player. The men\u2019s volleyball team also won gold after beating the Vancouver Island University Mariners. This is the 11th time the men\u2019s team has won a medal at the PACWEST championships. Eduardo Bida, Lucas Mafia, and Brenden Folkerts were named to the Champion All-Star team, and Bida was awarded most valuable player. Both women\u2019s and men\u2019s volleyball teams will play at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national championships in March, where the men\u2019s team will defend their spot as national champs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chargers make PACWEST All-Star list<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ten Camosun Chargers have made the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST)\u2019s volleyball All-Star list for the 2022-23 season. Tristan Cumming, Rilyn Boorman, and Avery Hansen were named to the All-Rookie team. Boorman, Hannah May, Lucas Maffia, and Kris La Gaurdia were all named to the Second All-Star team. Erica Bolink, Brendan Folkerts, and Eduardo Bida were named to the First All-Star team. The Chargers also picked up some awards, with Corriena McNeice and La Gaurdia being named Top Liberos and Bida being awarded Top Outside Hitter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Provincial student group urges government to help fight sexualized violence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Alliance of BC Students (ABCS) is urging the BC government to enact legislative changes and increase funding to combat sexualized and gender-based violence at post-secondary institutions. ABCS is requesting that the provincial government commits funds for the upcoming provincial budget. ABCS is also urging for all BC post-secondary campuses to be equipped with sexualized violence support centres, as they report that sexual violence is on the rise in post-secondary institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camosun launches new Strategic Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Camosun College recently launched its 2023-2028 Strategic Plan. After surveying students, employees, alumni, donors, partners, and employers, the college narrowed down six predominant areas of improvement to better serve the community.
