Service played for Camosun for two seasons beginning in 2013; she then went on to coach for the South Vancouver Island Basketball Association and at Parkland Secondary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chargers celebrate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The annual Chargers Award Ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 12 at the CFB Esquimalt Chief and Petty Officers\u2019 Mess. The ceremony began with team awards: the Team Rookies for basketball went to Abby Ruah and David Finch, and the Team Rookies for volleyball went to Rilyn Borman and Tristan Cumming. The Team Leadership Awards were given to Rhiannon Ware, Austin and Calvin Somers, Hannah May, and Brendan Folkarts. The Team Most Valuable Players went to Tegan Michel, Noah Helman, Erica Bolink, and Eduardo Bida. Kyle Butterworth received the Derek Twomey Scholarship for Sport, and the President\u2019s Award went to Julia Forsyth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Retired Camosun president honoured<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Camosun College has paid homage to retired president Sherri Bell by naming a multi-purpose hall in her honour. The Sherri Bell Hall is the largest space in the Wilna Thomas building, and includes a conference room that can hold 150 guests, either for college or community use. The naming ceremony took place on Wednesday, April 12 and commemorated Bells\u2019 40 years of working in education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camosun wins award of excellence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Camosun College is the silver recipient of the 2023 Excellence in Global Engagement award from Colleges and Institutions Canada. This award celebrates Camosun\u2019s global awareness, cultural exchange, and student success. The award was presented at the World Congress conference in Montreal on Monday, April 24.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New student housing at BCIT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A new building at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is under construction in an effort to provide affordable housing to students. The 12-storey building will provide 470 students with housing on the Burnaby campus.
