The market, now in its second year, will be lots of fun for Camosun students to engage with, says CCSS pride director Emily Lam, who is involved with organizing the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to have approximately 40 student vendors, and this is a cash-only event,\u201d says Lam. \u201cThese vendors range from a good variety of businesses, so they\u2019re planning to sell some pre-made food such as bread, baked goods, dried pasta, jams, as well as hot sauce. And we also have some vendors selling jewellery, so beaded earrings, resin, silver, as well as some artists, so art prints, cards, paintings, and clothes, fibre art, candles, to name a few.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_24637\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24637\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_20231105_151242_171.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-24637\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_20231105_151242_171-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_20231105_151242_171-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_20231105_151242_171-526x700.jpg 526w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_20231105_151242_171-768x1022.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.nexusnewspaper.com\/newsite\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/IMG_20231105_151242_171.jpg 843w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24637\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A student displays their goods for sale at last year\u2019s Holiday Market (photo by Emily Lam).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The primary goals of the market are to inspire students to do their best work and connect students with each other, says Lam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s a really good opportunity for our student vendors to promote their businesses and to connect with members of our community, and this event can help students to become inspired and see some of the talent and craft our vendors can offer,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd, overall, it\u2019s just important to support small businesses rather than huge mega-corporations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lam says that this year\u2019s market will address some of the criticism of last year\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year is more or less going to be the same, but we have taken some of the advice and concerns from last year, such as loud music,\u201d says Lam. \u201cWe are going to tone that down a bit, and we\u2019re going to make it more inclusive and just have a good time.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lam believes that events like the Holiday Market allow for a sense of community between students on campus.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to give students an opportunity to connect with other students and to become engaged on campus and kind of get to know each other,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>Lam says that the best part about her job is putting together events like this one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love to interact with students and to get to advocate for student issues and to also help run events and just getting involved,\u201d she says. <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lam says that she hopes students will connect with each other and support local endeavours through the Holiday Market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust to support local businesses and be more engaged with students and their, I guess, businesses as well,\u201d Lam says. \u201cOur student society is going to be also accepting donations of non-perishable food items to go towards our student food bank, and we\u2019ll also be having a hot-chocolate bar by donation with some snacks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of Lam\u2019s favourite parts of connecting with students is the happiness surrounding events like these.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI get to see enjoyment, happiness,\u201d she says, \u201cand just being part of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CCSS Holiday Market<br \/>\n3 pm to 6 pm Wednesday, November 29<br \/>\nWilna Thomas 224<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.camosunstudent.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">camosunstudent.org<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Camosun College Student Society (CCSS) is bringing its Holiday Market back this month.
