Along the way, Samson sheds layers to take us to the core of his charm.<\/p>\n<p>Whether he\u2019s become a cat lamenting the self-defeating tone of his owner in \u201cPlea From a Cat Named Virtute\u201d or a disenfranchised lover-that-never-was in \u201cPamphleteer,\u201d Samson showcases his uncanny ability to empathize with whomever &#8211; or whatever &#8211; he\u2019s writing about.<\/p>\n<p>Samson\u2019s heartstrings are intertwined with Canada at every turn of phrase. Who else writes a lovelorn lyric around a curling bonspiel? In \u201cTournament of Hearts\u201d he writes, \u201cWhy can\u2019t I draw up to what I want to say? Why can\u2019t I ever stop where I want to stay? I slide right through our days.
