British Columbia Federation of Students demand government increase post-secondary funding<\/strong><\/p>\n

British Columbia Federation of Students representatives from across BC recently came to Victoria to emphasize the need for an increase in public funding of post-secondary institutions. From October 21 to 23, these students met with 40 MLAs to demand the return to at least 75 percent of operating costs for BC colleges and universities being covered by the government. There have been nearly 1,000 layoffs of staff and a suspension, pause, or cut to 80 programs across the province in post-secondary institutions, and due to the federal government\u2019s cap on international-student permits, there have been significantly less international students, which is where institutions were making up the financial difference. Because of this, the BCFS says that cuts are expected to continue.<\/p>\n

Potential bear sighting near Interurban campus<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Friday, October 24, there was a report of a potential bear sighting at the Vancouver Island Technology Park, which is beside Camosun\u2019s Interurban Campus. Camosun put out an alert, reminding students to stay vigilant and keep an eye on their surroundings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

University Transfer Fair at Lansdowne campus<\/strong><\/p>\n

Camosun will be hosting a university transfer fair in the Sherri Bell Hall of Lansdowne\u2019s Wilna Thomas building. On November 20 from 11 am to 2:30 pm students planning on continuing their education after their time at Camosun will have the chance to speak with representatives from universities from across BC. In addition to the fair, there will also be information sessions for professional programs such as physical therapy, law school, and medical school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
