Corporate collusion:<\/b> Concerned about corporate influence on campus? I mean, you probably should be, and you wouldn\u2019t be alone in that: back in our September 4, 2001 issue, we covered how students were upset about corporate donor plaques popping up around campus. \u201cI think it is pretty disgusting,\u201d said Camosun College Student Society director Kristen Reiber, \u201cespecially when you are going to take a class on social change in the CIBC Bank Room or the Royal Bank Room.\u201d Reiber went on to say the CCSS was going to lobby the government to place an emphasis on public post-secondary as being just that, \u201cand looking out for the interest of the public at large and not Coca Cola.\u201d<\/p>\n

Credit concerns:<\/b> Students also had opinions in this issue about the government implementing credit checks on people applying for student loans. Credit checks for student loans had been banned previously in an effort to ensure equal access to education, but the Liberal government brought them back. But good news to angry students of a quarter-century back: the credit checks\u2014which were for first-time applicants 22 years of age or older\u2014were waived in August 2024.<\/p>\n
